He was the first performer of TAVR through ascending aorta approach and subclavian artery approach in the world. He has performed nearly 10000 independent operations since 1999, when he became the chief of Cardiac surgery at the German Heart Center. His expertise includes heart valve implantation (aortic valve, mitral valve, tricuspid valve, pulmonary valve), valvuloplasty and repair surgery, treatment of severe congenital heart disease, heart transplantation, heart assist devices, and treatment of end-stage heart failure. Recipient of the highest honor Ernst-Derra Award of the German Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery.
